In order to cater to the growing need for mechanical engineers in the country the department of mechanical engineering was established in the college with the introduction of a B.Tech programme in the academic year 2003-04. M.Tech course in Thermal Engineering introduced in 2013.
Right from the inception the department was provided with excellent and exhaustive laboratory facilities, and has a number of senior and highly qualified, experienced and academically active faculty which is its core strength.
The department is equipped with excellent research facilities in laboratories like Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, CAD-CAM, Thermal Engineering & Heat Transfer Laboratories etc. and Analysis packages like ANSYS, Pro-E, Hypermesh, to name a few. Students have brought laurels to the department by working on several currently relevant and innovative projects. The department conducts an yearly Robotic interdisciplinary event entitled "Droitz" and also has a chapter on SAE engaged in development of automobile engineering. A number of students have also made it to the top position in industries and Academia.
